5 Things to Pack Before You Travel Overseas
Traveling to a foreign country can be one of the most incredible experiences in one's life. It can also be one of the most daunting, and sometimes disastrous experiences if you go about it unprepared. We often pack way too much, and forget the important things because we try to pack without a list. Here are our top 5 Things to Back Before You Travel Overseas.
1. Passport Wallet
: The most important things you carry while overseas is your money and your passport. Without these, you won't being seeing much of the country. I always travel with my passport wallet to keep everything in one place. I can't tell you how many stories I hear of people losing their wallet, even passport because they didn't have a set plan for carrying it around. Obviously you want to smart with how you carry money, cards, and identification around another country, but you never know when you'll need your passport and money easily accessible.
2. Carry-on Backpack: Be sure to bring along a carry-on backpack that is small enough to fit inside that cabin of the plane, but big enough to carry an extra set of clothes in case your suitcase doesn't make it to your destination for some reason. I like to also pack some snacks, books, and headphones in case the airline doesn't have much to offer in-flight. If you are carrying a laptop be sure to bring a bag that has a designated laptop compartment for added protection on and off the plane.
3. Travel Journal: If you love to keep a log about your travel experiences, then a nice travel journal is the way to go. It is so much fun to look back on your thoughts from trips you took in the past. It can also be good for writing down new words or phrases that you learn while practicing the local language. I know a friend who like to sketch in his travel journal as well. Traveling is about making memories and sharing stories. Keeping a journal is an important part of the journey.
4. Hanging Toiletry Bag: This is a must have for any serious traveler, especially if you are staying in a hostel or similar accommodations. It is important to find a toiletry bag that hangs because sometimes the places you will be staying don't have bathroom counters, or clean ones anyway. I personally like the ones with winged zippers on the side for quick access to my toothbrush. I never travel without my toiletry bag anymore. It goes everywhere with me.
5. Packing Cubes
: If you are some who likes to have your suitcase organized then packing cubes are the way to go. They make packing and unpacking a breeze because you know exactly what each cubes holds. I've tried different packing strategies and none come close to the advantages of using packing cubes. You can even buy different colors to divide clothes between family members. The possibilities are endless here!
